States of Independence independent publishing day

20th March 2010 11:00

On Saturday March 20th there is an independent publishing day at De Montfort University in Leicester, called States of Independence. There will be bookstalls from all sorts of independent publishers from Leicestershire, from the East Midlands and a scattering of visitors from other parts of Britain. Over the day there will also be about twenty events – readings, discussions, presentations ranging from memoirs to football writing, from literary forgery throughout to Leicester Libraries own book, Calabash. The speakers are from all over the East Midlands, writers published by independent presses or with an interest in “a state of independence”, including Berlie Doherty (children’s writer), Gregory Woods (poet), Anthony Cartwright (fiction) and many more.
The book fair is free, as are all the events, which will run from 11-4. You are welcome to stay all day, hopping from one event to the next, or drop in to browse round the bookstalls and just attend the odd event.
