Derbyshire writers Roz Watkins and Jo Jakeman both write crime novels featuring strong women with a dark sense of humour. Come and hear them talk about their latest books and their inspiration, and find out how many cups of coffee and glasses of gin it takes to produce a finished novel.
Roz Watkins is the author of the acclaimed DI Meg Dalton crime series, which is set in the Peak District where she lives. The first book ‘The Devil’s Dice’, was published in March 2018, and was the Times Crime Book of the Month, where it was described as ‘a terrific debut, which teems with shivery atmosphere and introduces a cop quietly different from most of the women detectives in British crime fiction today.’ The book has also been optioned or television by ITV Studios.
Jo Jakeman won the 2016 Friday Night Live Award at York Festival of Writing where she was also shortlisted for Best Opening Chapter. Born in Cyprus, Jo worked in the City of London before moving to Derbyshire with her husband and twin boys. Her debut thriller, ‘Sticks and Stones’, was published by Harvill Secker. Rights have been sold in ten other territories to date. Her second novel will be published in summer 2019.
