‘If Only’ … in 50 words
That is the challenge set by Derby Book Festival for its 2018 Flash Fiction Writing Competition, which is launched on 10 January 2018. The Festival team is seeking submissions of stories of exactly fifty words (excluding the title) on the theme of ‘If Only’.
There are three age categories – 11 years and under, 12 – 17 years and 18 years and over. The entries will be judged by a panel of experts and each winning story will be illustrated by University of Derby Art and Design students and printed on Festival bookmarks. They will also be read at events throughout the Festival week, 1 – 9 June 2018, and will appear on the Derby Book Festival website. The winners and runners up will be invited to an event in QUAD, Derby on Thursday 12 April to launch this year’s Derby Book Festival. They will also receive tickets to an event during the Festival and the two young people’s category winners will receive an invitation to Writing East Midlands’ Writers’ Den to be held at the University of Derby.
The closing date for the competition is 10pm on Thursday 8 February 2018.
All entries must be submitted online via the form on their website, where you can find full details of the competition: www.derbybookfestival.co.uk/competition
