Nottingham Writers' Studio
NWS invite Richard Skinner to Nottingham to speak specifically about publishing marginal voices with his Social Action imprint, as well as to let us into the world of cutting-edge contemporary publishing.
1-3pm: Talk about the process of making Beautiful Blues, a book with interviews from first-generation Caribbean pioneers in the UK, that supports and promotes marginal voices. Richard will discuss how they interacted with the elders, gathering their oral biographies and the fine balance of bringing them into print.
3-4pm: Break, informal discussion and networking
4-6pm: Richard will speak about Vanguard Editions more generally, about how it grew out of live reading events, and the type of writing it publishes: poetry, short stories and art-writing.
