‘Become a Writing Mentor’ – A 2-day course delivered by Writing East Midlands
This 2-day course is designed to give established, professional writers the confidence, knowledge and skills to become creative mentors of emerging writers. In a small supportive group we will consider the definition of ‘Mentoring’ and how a mentoring relationship works. We will explore listening skills and techniques, the importance of asking open questions, mutual goal setting, and structuring sessions. There will be guidance on giving successful feedback on writing, and discussion of the many reasons writers ask for mentoring.
We will also consider the practical issues of contracts, finding clients, and establishing professional boundaries. There will be plenty of time for participation and discussion, sharing concerns and talking about how to deal with potential problems.
Your place on the course includes a follow-up hour of individual mentoring from the tutor, to talk about any specific extra guidance you feel you need.
All writers who are successful in taking part in this workshop will also have the opportunity to be featured on the Writing East Midlands website which will enable maximum reach to new emerging writers and audiences.
Date: 17th November and 1st December 2018
Time: 10am – 3.30pm (refreshments provided, lunch is not included)
£100 concession rate*
Experience: This course is designed for writers who are experienced in their field and have some history of publication, performance or have had their plays or shows produced or performed. They will have had some experience in the feedback process with other writers and have a keen interest in supporting other writers on their journey.
