Mansfield Palace Theatre, Leeming Street, Mansfield NG18 1NG
WRITE TRACK SHORTS 2019-20 As part of the ongoing programme of new writing at the Palace, we are offering the opportunity for a maximum of four playwrights (aged 16 plus) based in the East Midlands to put forward a short stage play idea or a completed play for consideration.
As the Palace Theatre has built a reputation of working with local playwrights over a number of years, this is a great opportunity for established and aspiring playwrights to benefit from having a play staged in Mansfield, with the support and experience of a professional production team. There is no expense to the chosen individual, other than travel costs to meetings and rehearsals as appropriate. Equally, it should be clarified that this is an opportunity for a playwright to have their work staged and therefore there are no commission fees or royalties offered for the production. Any Box Office income gained will be used to offset the production costs.
This project is in partnership with Vision West Nottinghamshire College’s Performing Arts Department, as part of our ongoing educational links and opportunities. Following successful similar projects, with a professionally led production team working with current Performing Arts students (who will be auditioned and form the acting team), this project will culminate in rehearsals and two performances in April 2020.
It should be made clear that all plays entered will be considered anonymously on their own merit. Playwrights should know that the selected playwrights will be working with actors (mainly aged 16-19) but this does not mean a play should be restricted to only having characters of a similar age. On the contrary, students have to take up the challenge of playing several characters of different ages as part of their training.
To help focus the project or provide some stimulus to the entrants we have decided on a wide theme which can be interpreted and responded to in any way the playwrights seem appropriate
