Posted on 11th January 2010
Serenah Cole joins Writing East Midlands and will be working as a freelance project co-ordinator and programmer to produce Lyric Lounge 2010.
Serenah is a performance poet, playwright, and producer based in Leicester. She has been commissioned to write and perform nationally at venues, theatres and festivals such as the Soho Theatre, Glastonbury Festival and the National Space Centre. She founded ‘NOIZinZION’ performance poetry and music events and has attended The Royal Court Theatre’s prestigious ‘Invitation Group’ Advanced Playwriting Course, where she produced a reading of her first play ‘And It Hurts Like Brand New Shoes’.
Lyric Lounge 2010 will build on the successful development of the Lyric Lounge project, an MLA/Renaissance initiative (first created/presented in Leicester 2009) that is supported by Arts Council England and forms part the East Midlands’ Igniting Ambition Olympiad programme.
The Lyric Lounge project provides accessible, temporary spoken word venues in transformed spaces. In 2010 Lyric Lounge events will be held in Derby, Nottingham and Leicestershire. Each programme of events will run for two or three days and will include professional spoken word performances, delivery of new commissions, presentations by young people, and opportunities for schools. Participants will benefit from workshop opportunities, platform showcasing and contact with a wide range of different writers and spoken word artists.
