Newark and Sherwood Museum Service has a fine collection of items from the English Civil War, including a contemporary Civil War siege plan, distinctive Newark Siege pieces, several gold and silver coin hoards, weapons and Civil War tracts.
Writer Dave Wood will work with a group of young people from The Magnus School and will run workshops designed to engage a younger audience, to interpret and research the collections in an imaginative an innovative way. The young people will produce and present their research to their peers and the wider community by utilizing social media, including podcasts, social networking sites and scriptwriting.

About Dave Wood

In 1988 Dave joined participatory collective, Word And Action, enabling groups to create and act in their own performances. Another limb of the company published poetry and oral history. He left in in 1998.
2000 – 2002, Dave was Waterstone’s Writer in Residence, running sessions and inventing/organising ‘Big Word Day’; five floors of literary based and exciting activities.
He writes poetry, plays and an occasional short story. Dave’s first play
was performed at the international theatre in the round festival, London. The round format is a commitment for him.
Dave also creates poems to order; personal use (birthdays, anniversaries etc); and for festivals/public occasions.
Two years ago Dave wrote the Yew Tree of Ilkeston for their local Festival. It has since been used to re-launch the local cemetery, been quoted in an article and a selection of its verses are displayed on a high street shop.
He wrote Ghosts and Shadows for Startle’s series of contemporary installations at the Beetroot Tree Gallery and created poems for visitors to the Skegness 2010 festival.
Dave spend a lot of time enabling others to be creative; school children, youth groups, adults and children with disabilities; anyone! He’s looking forward to more cracking creativity with MuBu.
