Write Here at New Walk Museum

Writing East Midlands is working in partnership with New Walk Museum and Leicester based poet and international artist, Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze. Jean has been looking at stories about the life of New Walk Museum, how people in Leicester feel about their museum and its collections. Jean has been bringing new life to old objects, and inspiring people to write the poetry they’ve always wanted to write.

This residency is strongly linked to The Lyric Lounge project and as part of Lyric Lounge Leicester Jean ran workshops for visitors using museum objects and performed pieces she had produced during the residency. She also performed a specific new piece to launch the Laurel Aitken exhibition that is currently at New Walk until early next year. In the New Year there will be audio recordings available at the museum, of Jean performing some of her museum work.
