Writer Opportunity - Away Pitch

Posted on 13th May 2010

Arts East Staffs, at East Staffordshire Borough Council, is running Away Pitch, a sports and arts collaboration from May 2010. 20 visual artists are donating 20 artworks to be placed with 20 Staffordshire sportspeople, in their homes or workplaces. Over four weeks in June, sportspeople will record their response to the artwork, in notebooks and audio diaries. We are seeking an enthusiastic and personable creative writer to work with a lead visual artist to create an exhibition of photography and poetry around the theme of the Cultural Olympiad. You will create a series of 20 short poems based on conversations with 20 sportspeople about their attitude to sports and arts. You will also create your own poem reflecting on the overall themes which have emerged during the project. You will have the opportunity to perform your poem as part of the exhibition launch.

We particularly wish to hear from experienced poets who enjoy working in collaboration (especially with visual artists) and in partnership with the public. Poets with experience of working on public art projects (especially with visual artists) are also particularly welcome to apply. You will have access to a mentor to discuss the progress of the creative work.
You must be available for work in June and July, to complete all creative work by Friday 23 July when the exhibition is launched.

Inclusive Fee: £1600 (minimum 8 days)

Please send a CV together with a covering letter (2 sides of A4 maximum) outlining your interest in and suitability for the role.
