Residencies
We are working with our Literature Network partners to establish roles for writers based at a range of cultural and community organisations across the East Midlands.
Writers-in-residence are an important and established method of engaging writers with other forms of art and culture, and the broader community, in a variety of different venues. The East Midlands already has a small number of writers-in-residence, including an East Midlands Literary Laureate (Ian McMillan), Derbyshire Poet Laureate and Royal Literary Fellows at regional universities among others.
Residencies will be established in major cities and counties in the East Midlands region. They will represent that location as an unofficial ‘laureate’, examining and reflecting the identity of the area as part of their residency. Each Resident Writer will be based within a host organisation from either the cultural or community sector with strong links to other partner organisations in the area.
We aim to include a full range of disciplines within literature – poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, storytelling and spoken word. We endeavour to include a range of experience from emerging to established artists.
