Write Here! Care to Write
Care to Write is a group of Derby writers who are also full-time carers, facilitated by writer and former Derbyshire Poet Laureate, Cathy Grindrod.
“Our goal is to reach out to other carers who are writers, and to encourage writing as a form of wellbeing and personal fulfilment.” – Bobbie Brotherton
Their first writing project, which was set up by Cathy in partnership with Wellbeing Works CIC, led to the publication of the book, From Small Seeds, launched at Derby Quad in June 2014 and supported by a number of organisations.
The group undertook a project facilitated by Cathy and assistant writer, Kate Roach, which will lead to a performance of work around the needs of carers. This project was jointly funded by Derby City Council and Writing East Midlands.
“We write and share; the sorrows, joys, frustration and even the funny side of our roles as carers. These meetings give us the opportunity to uncover our identities outside of our caring persona, something many of us have never had the chance to do. It also helps to break our isolation, as strong friendships have been formed through our journey of self-expression.
Our goal is to reach out to other carers who are writers, and to encourage writing as a form of wellbeing and personal fulfilment. We also aim to reach the institutions that have contact with carers and their loved ones, as well as the general public, in order to open the doors of communication.” – Bobbie Brotherton, Secretary, Care to Write
