We are funded by Arts Council England as part of their National Portfolio Fund. In addition, we have been awarded funds from their Catalyst Evolve programme to enable us to explore the ways in which we can access funds from trusts and foundations to support our projects and additional activity, as well as encouraging support from our own community.
Successful applications enable us to develop new initiatives, which sit at the heart of what we do. Successful applications to Paul Hamlyn Foundation and The Rayne Foundation, enabled us to develop Sanctuary. Sanctuary is a programme of writers’ residencies which offer people from marginalised groups a space to discover how literature can alleviate feelings of isolation and give them the opportunity to share their voice with the wider community. Our Lit:lab research project is an integral part of Sanctuary and sets out to explore, evaluate and document the effects our work has on the communities we work within.
Through our Write Here residencies we have engaged with a variety of communities including, children and young people, ROMA communities, ex-offenders, and women escaping domestic abuse. Initially Sanctuary focussed on refugee and migrant communities in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham. The project has already delivered a second phase within that community and as we seek new funding we are developing relationships with groups who support people with Aspergers and autism. We will develop our connections with Paul Hamyln and The Rayne Foundation to continue to grow Sanctuary and Lit:lab.
Our work has also been supported by The Big Lottery Fund (Awards for All), Santander Foundation (Discovery Grant), and Foundation Derbyshire. We continue to apply to relevant funds to support a wide range of projects and work with writers to find appropriate funding opportunities. First Art commissioned us to deliver a series of writing workshops in the region and we welcome organisations who have funds available to contact us to discuss proposals.
Our continued success depends on us generating income from a variety of sources, not only trusts and foundations, but also from within our own community. If you have funds which you believe could support our work or would like to donate any amount, please contact our fundraising manager.
