Writer Biography

I was born in 1962 in Twickenham, studied English at Swansea University and now live in Derby with my wife and two sons. I teach Creative Writing at Derby and Nottingham Universities. I am a poet, widely published in the literary press and have three volumes of published verse, most recently & Contains Mild Peril& which came out in 2008 from Five Leaves Press.
In 1999 I was appointed Poet Laureate for Nottinghamshire. As well as visiting literary groups I wrote a weekly article on poetry for The Nottingham Evening Post.
As well as poems I have published reviews in many journals including & London Magazine& , & Acumen& and & Staple& . I give frequent readings of my own poetry and have conducted many poetry workshops with literary societies.
I am the editor of the poetry journal & Assent& which was formerly known as Poetry Nottingham.

    During my year as Poet Laureate for Nottingham I ran regular poetry workshops for literary societies across the county as well as secondary schools . I am a regular reader of my own work and continually practise workshopping poetry in my employment on the undergraduate creative writing programmes at Derby University.
