I am a Leicester born, multi-award award-winning author, published poet, director, playwright, dramaturge, screenwriter and tutor. A feature of her work is magic realism narratives, with compelling characters, with distinctive voices from marginalized communities. Carol’s most recent award in 2017 is the East Midlands Outstanding Woman In Arts, Media & Music. Other awards include Ena Young for Poetry Leicester Writers Club 2017, Penfold Award Media Leicester Writers Club 2016 and Writing For Listeners Siobhan Logan Award 2014 Leicester Writers Club. Shortlisted for Imison/Tinniswood Award for Radio Drama Society of Authors/Writers Guild I write articles for Great Central Magazines on the arts, also copy writing for marketing. A script consultant for Seven Five Film.
The first edition of my self published debut chapbook The Declamations of Cool Eye sold out and the second edition will be available shortly. This debut chapbook was launched at a successful screening of her brief film poem, titled Enchanter, it featured the poem Drawing from the chapbook. l later received the Leicester Writers Club Penfold Media Award in 2016 for the film poem. A new second poetry collection is in preparation.
I am currently an Associate Artist as Writer/Director at Curve theatre Leicester. My plays and poetry have been broadcast nationally on BBC Radio 4 Reality Check and New Orleans Walk BBC Radio Leicester. My innovative choreopoem play The Loneliness of the Long Distance Diva was staged at Curve theatre for the Cultural Olympiad 2012. I was later appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts. Carol’s play Vex was performed at Brighton Dome Theatre. My second choreopoem in production for Curve and national touring for 2019 I am an Apples & Snakes poet, I have read at Literary Festivals e.g. Simon Says Festival, Literary Leicester First Story, Leicester New Writing Festival, and Surrey University Poetry Festival 2017.
