Writer Biography

I was born and brought up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where I did bachelors degrees in English and Japanese and a Master’s of Fine Arts in poetry. My first book, Music for Landing Planes By, was published by Milkweed Editions in 2007. A second is forthcoming in 2011. My poems have appeared in Prairie Schooner, Diode, Barrelhouse, and other journals; a short story was published in The Rake and later anthologized. I now live in Nottingham, where I am a doctoral candidate in Critical Theory.

    I have taught poetry and literature to diverse groups, from schoolchildren in summer programs, to students at the University of Minnesota, to juvenile inmates in the Minnesota State Prison in Red Wing.
