Writer Biography

I have lived in Derbyshire for nearly 20 years and originally hail from Hampshire. I attended Winchester Schol of Art (1991-2) where I completed a National Diploma in Art Foundation Studies and moved to Derbyshire to attend Derby Art College to undertake a Graphic Design (BA (Hons).

I have worked for Derbyshire County Council (approx. 10 years); Derby Mind Rosehill Club (approx. 2 years (1997-8); and volunteered at Morleston Street Day Centre (1996-8).

Most of my work this work has been related to older people/adults with physical and mental health difficulties.

I have written and painted all of my life and now wish to concentrate more fully on these pursuits either singly, in combination or in application with marginalised people and groups.

Available for the following:

  • Workshops
  • Community Group Work
  • Volunteering
  • Work Experience/Qualifications

I have worked for Derbyshire County Council for 10 years, (1997-2007) both as a Community Support Worker and a Community Care Worker. I worked mainly with older people with either / both physical needs and mental health difficulties.
I ran groups of 16 plus people, organizing activities inc. artistic, craft based, quizzes etc.
One group of especial joy to me was conducted at Clay Cross Primary School between 1998 and 2002, called ‘Being Seen and Heard’ during which two or three older service-users read and interacted with the children there. Many of the service users were socially isolated and/or diagnosed with dementia.

Prior to this I worked for Derby Mind Rosehill Club. Here I worked with adults of all ages experiencing mental health difficulties.

I am currently working towards an English Degree with the O.U. of which I have just completed my fourth year.
