Writer Biography

In common with many other scribes, I started writing at the age of nine and have done it ever since. But instead of writing about chocolate mice, I now write contemporary dark comedy with crime and thriller strands. I love – and am influenced by – Jon McGregor, Maggie O’Farrell, Michel Faber, Sarah Hall, Rachel Cusk, Ian McEwan, Kate Atkinson, Karen Walker-Thompson and Belinder Bauer, to name but a lot. I was shortlisted for the Penguin WriteNow scheme 2018 and just secured a Mentoring place with WEM 2020.

Currently, I’m editing a psychological thriller which I hope to get published. I work part-time for the NHS, and oil-paint, too. I live in Nottingham with my husband and cats.

Work Experience/Qualifications

I have a degree in Psychology and a Counselling Certificate, with which I’ve done Jack Shi*. But they taught me to be nosy, analytical and full of hypothesis. My husband has to kick me for staring at people in pubs. All useful for my writing though. I have rare disorders, and a rare ability - I’m a SUPER-RECOGNISER, which is nice but useless.
