Writer Biography

Wayne Burrows was born in Derbyshire, grew up in Mid-Wales, then lived in Sheffield and East London, where he worked as an editor and freelance journalist. Publications include Marginalia (2001), Emblems (2009), The Apple Sequence (2011), Wood & Ink (2013), The Holcombe Tarot (2014), Black Glass: New & Selected Poems (2015), Exotica Suite & Other Fictions (2015) and Eastern Bloc Songs: A Sampler (2016). Alongside writing, he has made a number of short films, including Disturbances (2010), The Serendipity Loops (2012) and The Sorceress (2015), and regularly fabricates exhibitions under the entirely fictional identity of the post-war British collage artist Robert Holcombe (b.1923 – d.2003).

    Particular interest in cross-arts and collaborative working on projects that extend writing for print to into music, sound, film, visual arts and live performance. Have developed commissions of this kind with many organisations, including New Art Exchange, Nottingham Castle, Nottingham Contemporary, Sidelong, Syson Gallery, Xero Kline & Coma and many others: see the CV section on my website for details of some examples. I have also given a wide range of talks and formal lectures, and run public workshops and other projects in contexts ranging from open public sessions with councils, galleries, libraries and museums to closed workshops with Hospice Residents and other specific community and educational groups. Preference for working with adults or (if students) at Further Education and University level (ages 18 and upward): some particular experience of working with elderly groups.
