About the Lead Writers

Jim Hall

Jim Hall is a writer, educator & author of Upon Arrival, Drop Your Cool, Boy and Before You Take Off Your Party Hat (Forthcoming 2019). He is an advocate of finding your voice and everything you feel. Lover of Netflix, poetic rap battles and Max Paprika crisps. He says less than he should. Writing helps with this. Jim is known to cry at sweeping beat-laden pop songs and his mother’s kitchen waltz. He has served as writer-in-residence in Nottingham Girls Academy and Nottingham Academy, Greenwood Road.

Ioney Smallhorne

When performing she’s funny, at times vulnerable and tends to blend the political with the personal- she’s always Ioney. When not writing poems, she’s failing her motorbike test, growing vegetables, travelling and trying to learn Italian. Longlisted by the Jerwood Fellowship 2018 she was also short listed by Caribbean Small-Axe prize 2017.

Ioney is a member of the Peepal Tree Press Inscribe writing programme, is studying a MA in Creative Writing & Education at Goldsmiths University, London. As a Spoken Word Educator, she encourages young people to harness the power of poetry to realise their own greatness and is currently a First Story workshop facilitator.

A film maker who enjoys translating her poems to the screen. Ioney’s work was also recently published in the Peepal Tree Press poetry anthology, Filigree.
